Cardiovascular Health Assessment

Your Cardiometabolic profile will start with a basic cardiovascular screening which includes:

  • Total cholesterol

  • LDL “bad” cholesterol

  • HDL “good” cholesterol

  • Triglyceride level

  • Glucose level

  • Blood pressure measurement

  • Framingham Risk Score (FRS)-Gold standard measurement for determining 10- year risk for developing heart disease. Factors measured include age, total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, systolic blood pressure, hypertension treatment and smoking.

In addition to the basic cardiovascular screen we offer a comprehensive cardiovascular assessment.
Below are the multiple components to this evaluation.

Hs-CRP- Test for determining the potential risk level for cardiovascular disease, heart attack and stroke-Very useful when combined with tests for cholesterol and triglycerides.

Why should I get tested?
Because you could be a high risk patient-completely unaware, feeling healthy, having no symptoms…and suddenly struck by a heart attack. Sadly this happened to over 200,000 Americans last year.

“How would I know I am high-risk? I feel fine”
You WOULD NOT know until you get tested. How many times have you heard of someone dropping dead of a heart attack who you thought was perfectly healthy?

“I had my cholesterol level checked recently; do I still have to be tested
with CardioHealth®?”

Yes, cholesterol is NOT an accurate measure of risk. In fact, a large research study analyzing American Heart Association’s database showed that 3 out of 4 people hospitalized with heart attack have normal cholesterol levels!

Metabolic Profiling

Thyroid Screening is used to detect a condition of low thyroid hormone (hypothyroidism).

Thyroid function is intimately connected with your metabolism — thyroid hormones basically regulate calorie consumption.

Because patients with an under active thyroid tend to have a very low basal metabolic rate, one of the most noticeable symptoms of hypothyroidism is weight gain and difficulty losing extra weight. Often the “metabolic burn” continues to fall as calories are reduced when dieting. That’s why some women with low thyroid can have weight gain even when they severely restrict calories. In order to fix your metabolism, you have to understand your entire health picture, not just your thyroid.

Low Testosterone Screening (Men Only) Are you proud of your “pot belly?” Don’t be! You may have low testosterone (Low T) levels. Men with low testosterone have a 33% greater risk of death over their next 18 years of life when compared to men with higher testosterone levels. There are certain medical conditions that increase the odds of also having Low T, such as obesity, diabetes (diabetic men over the age of 45 are twice as likely to have Low T), high blood pressure, high cholesterol, HIV, asthma, and COPD.

In an adult male, testosterone helps maintain sex drive, sexual function, muscle mass, strength, mood, energy levels, and bone strength. By middle age and older, virtually all men experience some decline in testosterone. Unlike a woman’s menopause, when estrogen levels plummet over months to very low levels, men’s “andropause” is a gradual decline of testosterone levels over years. The effects of low testosterone can go unnoticed.

Sleep apnea screening
Sleep apnea is a serious sleep disorder that occurs when a person’s breathing is interrupted during sleep. People with untreated sleep apnea stop breathing repeatedly during their sleep. This means the brain and the rest of the body may not be getting enough oxygen. Being overweight or obese puts you at risk of developing sleep apnea. We will determine your risk of having sleep apnea. This is important because, if left untreated, sleep apnea can result in a growing number of health problems including:

  •      ► High blood pressure
  •      ► Stroke
  •      ► Heart failure, irregular heartbeat, and heart attack
  •      ► Diabetes
  •      ► Depression

Measuring your individual metabolism rate based on the amount of oxygen your body consume is a core component of the RedCircle® program. We will measure your metabolism rate to develop an individualized plan that fits your body and the amount of nutritional intake and additional metabolic consumption you will need to reach your goal.

Metabolism Assessment Test

Resting metabolism, can represent up to 75% of the total metabolism in someone who leads a sedentary lifestyle, and is therefore an important factor in how efficiently calories will be burned off.

What is resting metabolism?
Resting metabolism is the amount of calories the body burns to maintain vital body functions such as maintaining a heart rate, brain function, and breathing. In simple terms, it is the number of calories a person would burn if they were awake, but at rest all day.

Why is measuring resting metabolism important?
Since resting metabolism accounts for up to 75% of the total calories we need each day, it’s critical to appropriately establish daily calorie needs, whether you’re trying to lose or maintain weight. It is important to know that metabolism is impacted by a variety of characteristics such as fever, illness, obesity, active weight loss, etc. When managing nutritional needs and calorie requirements, knowledge of resting metabolism is critically important. As a result of these estimates, individuals can be both over and under eating, and not be successful in reaching their personal goals. The most accurate assessment of caloric needs is by measuring oxygen consumption and determining individual metabolism.

Nutritional recommendation based on resting metabolism level
Based on the reading of your resting metabolism and other important factors, our dietician will recommend an allotted amount of calories for you to consume throughout each day. This balanced diet recommendation will include a measured and determined amount of protein, fat and carbohydrates. As you progress through our program, and as your body composition and resting metabolism changes, we will measure and reevaluate your overall nutritional intake level routinely to offer you the best and most accurate recommendations.
